Firriato’s 2010 Etna Bianco Cavanera Ripa di Scorciavacca, a higher-end Carricante/Cataratto blend, shows lovely volume and breadth from aging in oak that serves to balance the more mineral tendencies of the Etna. Spices, crushed rocks, white peaches and mint are all woven together beautifully. The Ripa di Scorciavacca is impeccable from start to finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2014. Once again, Firriato has done a great job across the board with virtually their entire range, no small feat at production levels within the context of Italian wine.
