The red wines begin with the 2006 Gamay Noir, the best I have tasted from this estate, and a serious competitor for the finest Cru Beaujolais. Medium ruby-colored, it offers an alluring bouquet of cinnamon, clove, and earth notes. This leads to a sweetly-fruited wine with layers of savory red fruits, excellent depth, and a long, pure finish. Drink it over the next 4-6 years.
Vigneron Doug Tunnell is a relative veteran of the Willamette Valley scene, having planted his first parcel in 1992. His vineyards are certified biodynamic and all of the wines are sourced from estate fruit. In the 2006 vintage, Tunnell produced two outstanding Chardonnays which should not be overlooked.
