The 2008 Sauvignon Quarz is a touch reserved in this vintage, but it’s the persistence on the palate that truly elevates it to a high level. Dramatic, deep and finely-knit, the Quarz blossoms on the palate with marvelous complexity and class. Ripe peaches, apricots, flowers and mint dominate over some of the greener Sauvignon notes that are found in the Winkl. Both are marvelous. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2022. The most impressive wines I tasted this year from Alto Adige came from Cantina di Terlano. Simply put, these are reference point wines. This is a fantastic Sauvignon Blanc that invites glass after glass. On the one side you have the vibrant fragrances of this aromatic variety, and on the other, you have the wine’s delicious creamy texture.
