The 2003 Scavigna Polpicello is a more important wine and is made from a high-altitude vineyard cropped to low yields. The Polpicello is 40% Gaglioppo, 25% Nocera Nero, 20% Magliocco, 10% Nerello Cappuccio, 3% Cabernet Franc 1% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that spent 18 months in French oak. Sweet, silky tannins frame roses, ripe red cherries, flowers and spices in a rich style that retains considerable freshness and vibrancy. The finish is long, succulent and elegant. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
