The 2006 Barolo Fossati is quite a bit firmer than the Cannubi. Here the fruit is darker and tighter, not a bad thing for a vintage in which so many wines are already quite open. Violets, tar and menthol add to an impression of coolness and firmness. This is a rare 2006 that needs further cellaring, but it is impressive even today. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. A resinous edge marks this cherry- and strawberry-flavored Barolo, lending a slightly rustic cast, yet the sweet fruit more than makes up for it.
