The stunning, dense purple-colored 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape is performing better out of bottle than it did from foudre. Sweet, rich, and full-bodied, with broad, peppery, cassis and black cherry notes intermingled with licorice, incense, and seaweed, this pungent, fragrant, extremely Provencal effort tastes like liqueur of Provence. Drink it over the next 15-16 years.
Like so many Chateauneuf du Pape estates, this property has pushed the envelope of quality over recent years thanks to the energy and enthusiasm of owners Jean and Jean-Paul Versino.
