The regular offering of 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dark ruby/purple color along with plenty of cinnamon, fruitcake, and spice box notes, and an earthy, robust style. Drink it during its first 7-8 years of life. This cuvee is generally a blend of two-thirds Grenache and the rest equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre with about 5% such authorized varietals as Counoise and Cinsault.

The Versino family is another that immigrated from Italy to Chateauneuf du Pape. The current proprietor, Jean-Paul Versino, has produced a bevy of beautiful wines from the Bois de Boursan’s 40+ acres of vineyards. In 2008, none of the special cuvees were made.
