With its rich, porty bouquet of roasted plums, dried red berries, caramel and potpourri, the 1949 Richebourg Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, firm and structural, with a chewy finish. Whereas the 1947 Romanée-Saint-Vivant that preceded it is fading gracefully, this particular bottle of the 1949 Richebourg was showing signs of drying out, though it was clearly a hearty, fleshy wine in its heyday.
