The 2012 Barolo Gattera opens to imperfect aromas that could denote some degree of spoilage or Brettanomyces. The bouquet is weighted down by saddle leather and old spice. The fruit has difficulty breaking through.

Overall, this is balanced and elegant, ending with a long, licorice- and tar-infused finish.
