A very good effort from Proprietor Serguier et Fils, the 1997 Chateauneuf du Pape may be even better if it is bottled without excessive fining/filtration. It possesses a dark ruby color, attractive roasted herb, black cherry, and raspberry notes, excellent concentration, low acidity, heady alcohol, and a rich, chewy, very good finish. This well-made Chateauneuf should drink well for 7-8 years. This wine is a blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% miscellaneous varietals.
