Slightly herbaceous, with ample meatiness, tobacco leaf, pepper and rare steak like nuances, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape is fresh, lively and nicely focused on the palate. A blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Cinsault that was aged 80% in concrete and 20% in foudre, it shows the vintage nicely and is also drinking at point. I’d drink bottles over the coming couple of years, yet it will evolve gracefully for longer.
Made by Jean-Pierre Serguier, both of these are solid, elegantly styled efforts.
