A very good effort from Proprietor Serguier et Fils, the 1996 Chateauneuf du Pape's evolved, dark plum/ruby color is followed by a spicy nose of black cherries, cedar, pine needles, and pepper. It is a fruit-driven wine with attractive levels of glycerin, low acidity, and an excellent long, lusty finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. This wine is a blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% miscellaneous varietals.
