Chateau Simian’s 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape is an old school, character-filled effort that’s almost overflowing with savory Provencal herbs, cedary spice, garrigue and mature Grenache fruit on the nose. These give way to a medium bodied, nicely balanced 2006 that has good mid-palate depth, as well as a tannic, slightly dry finish that makes me think it’s best drunk over the coming couple of years.
