The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is smoking good. (Starting with the 2011 vintage, this wine is now called Chateauneuf du Pape le Traversier.) Made from 70% Grenache and the rest Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Syrah, aged all in concrete tanks, it’s a rounded, impressively textured 2007 that offers ample notes of cured meats, red and black fruits, incense and a potpourri like character that develops with time in the glass. Full-bodied, concentrated and impeccably balanced, it’s a classic Chateauneuf du Pape to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.
