The superb 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dark plum/purple color along with sumptuous notes of melted licorice, blackberries, cassis, cherries, prunes, and raisins. Layered, with creme de cassis liqueur-like flavors, and moderate tannin lurking beneath the surface, this is a sexy, lush, fragrant 2000. Low acidity and sweet tannin suggest it can be enjoyed now and over the next 12-15 years.
Sophie and Catherine must feel some responsibility for carrying on the heritage of the Armenier family, which has been making Chateauneuf du Pape for only 700 years!
