The 2007 Allende Blanco is more youthful on the nose, with beeswax and yellow plum and white flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry: honeyed fruit laced with mango and a touch of beeswax. It is very composed on the finish, but it has more to give over the next decade. Drink 2013-2025. Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.

The more serious 2007 Allende Blanco is a blend of 70% old vine Viura and 30% old vine Malvasia. Medium gold-colored, on the nose it reveals some oxidative notes as well as honey, melon, and spring flowers. Supple and smooth on the palate with good depth, it should be consumed over the near term while the fruit is intact. The Calvario Vertical Tasting : Allende’s Calvario cuvee is typically 90% old-vine Tempranillo and the balance Garnacha and Graciano sourced from the vineyard of the same name planted in 1945. The wine is aged in new French oak for 16 months and bottled without filtration. Yellowing to the eye, with waxy vanilla aromas along with toasty lemon and apple scents. For an ’07 it’s hanging in well even if it’s creamy and rich, with banana and lemon cream pie flavors. Best to drink now; 70% Viura and 30% Malvasia.——M.S.(10/1/2010)—— 89
