The 2005 Barolo Margheria is a dense, hulking wine bursting with dark fruit, French oak, smoke, licorice and tar. This textured, weighty Barolo finishes with substantial heft and richness. Today the wine remains quite primary but a few years in bottle should allow for additional complexity to emerge. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2023.
Azelia remains one of my favorite under-the-radar producers in Piedmont. Proprietor Luigi Scavino fashions gorgeous wines from his vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga.
