Even better, and a standout in the vintage, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape La Cote Ronde (50/50 Grenache and Syrah, aged 18 months in barrel) gives up beefy, meaty notes of roasted herbs, chocolate, pepper, smoke and black currants. Full-bodied, rich and textured, with beautifully sweet tannin and superb concentration, it’s a knockout 2011 and will be one of the longer-lived wines in the vintage. Drink now-2029. These modern-styled efforts are made by Jean-Paul Autard, and the estate covers roughly 60 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape.
