Tasted at the Montrose vertical in Stamford, the 1973 Montrose, to repeat the phrase used by Robert Parker, is for "academic interest" only. It was picked from 21 September until 8 October. There are vestiges of dark frui,t but they rapidly dissipate and leave you with dull autumnal leaves and a jarring camphor scent that felt totally out of place. The palate is bitter and sharp, dry and austere. It was marginally better than the 1974 but otherwise, it is a Montrose that I would not hanker to re-taste. Tasted May 2016.
