The 2001 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Antica Chiusina, a single-vineyard selection aged entirely in barrels, is, with the 1985 and 1990 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Vigneto Asinine of Poliziano, the finest wine I have ever tasted from the appellation, powerful and complex on the nose with smoke, licorice, incense, and herbs to accompany the perfectly ripe fruit, a sizeable structure with important concentration, and a broad, lush, sustained flow over the palate.
