The 2004 Gigondas Terre des Aines is 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre that was aged all in concrete tank (as are all of the wines from this estate). Coming from vines planted in 1925, it offers up a traditional, rustic feel with blackcurrant, melted licorice, charred earth and roasted herb aromas and flavors. Angular, rustic (again) and chewy, with plenty of tannin, it lacks a touch of charm at this point and I’m not sure it’s going to get better.
