The 1990 Meursault-Clos de Mazerat exhibits an opaque color, a big, oaky, cherry-scented nose, and solid, full-bodied, muscular flavors. While it comes across as chunky, perhaps even heavy-handed, the wine's suppleness and richness is admirable. Give it several years of cellaring and drink it between 1995-2005. The Meursault-Clos de Mazerat, the Volnay-Clos des Santenots, and the Volnay-Santenots constitute the domaine's estate vineyards. The wines are made in a muscular, chunky, full-bodied style that appears to submerge some of the Pinot Noir's fragrance and elegance. They are densely colored, rich, macho wines that should age nicely for 10-15 years. I preferred them to the firm's more expensive bottlings from the Cote de Nuits.
