The 2006 St.-Joseph l’Olivaie comes from old Syrah vines planted in the 1940s, in the northern end of the appellation, near St.-Jean de Muzols. About 15% new oak is used. It is an elegant effort displaying supple tannins as well as beautiful strawberry and black cherry fruit, licorice, and a hint of camphor. Stunningly fresh, well-delineated, bright, and lively, it should drink nicely for a decade.
