The 2014 Chauvin had a broody bouquet, taciturn at first but gradually unfurling to reveal brambly red berry fruit mixed with cedar and soy, just some volatility emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin that lends it approachability. There is a keen thread of acidity, although the finish just seems to lack detail and nuance, especially compared to the imminent and I suspect superior 2015 Chauvin.

Now owned by the family of Sylvie Cazes, the Chateau Chauvin 2014 has quite a plush bouquet with soft blueberry and juniper scents that are nicely defined. The palate is quite tensile on the entry. It feels a little tart at the moment, though there is a good line of acidity with good structure on the slightly clipped finish. Hopefully that will fill out by the time of bottling. A second example seemed a little dry. Expect this to improve under Sylvie.
