More forward and expansive than the Esprit cuvee, the 2013 Chateauneuf du Pape Privilege checks in as an interesting blend of 50% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 12% Mourvèdre, with the remaining 5% made up of white varieties. It has pretty notes of blackberries, black raspberries, crushed rock and licorice to go with a medium-bodied, fruit forward and enjoyable style the palate. While it was raised all in barrel (30% new), you wouldn’t know it by tasting it, and it has plenty of classic Proven?al character. However, I don’t think it will make old bones, so plan on drinking bottles over the coming 5-7 years.
