Another impressive wine, the 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape Privilège is more concentrated, rich and textured, with lots of black cherry, currants, toasted spies and hints of barrique in its fresh, pure, classic style. The blend here is 50% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre and the rest a mix of varieties, and it was completely destemmed and aged in 30% new barrels. It’s one of the few wines that will benefit from short-term cellaring and will have a decade of longevity.
