The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee appears to be the most complete wine produced by Domaine de la Solitude since the legendary 1967. There is no evidence of oak (only 15% was utilized as opposed to 100% for the 1999 Cuvee). The opaque inky/purple color is followed by a wine with tremendous density, a sumptuous, full-bodied palate, explosive ripeness, a long, textured finish, and total harmony between the alcohol, tannin, and extract. The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape (a blend of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and 5% Cinsault aged 90% in foudre and 10% in barrel) offers up a sumptuously perfumed bouquet of sweet red and black currants, kirsch, licorice, and vanilla. The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape is 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Moruvedre and the rest Cinsault. It's a charming, classical effort that has a medium-bodied, ready to go, mature feel to go with lots of spice, garrigue, leather and kiss of mint. Drink up.
