The soft 2002 Embruix, a blend of 50% Grenache, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Carignan, is a pleasant, straightforward effort displaying notions of blueberries, crushed rocks, and cherries. More of an approachable Priorat, with plump fruit and modest tannins. It’s a blend of five grapes, mostly from vineyards planted in the 1990s, and the aging takes place in one-year-old French oak. Ripe and rich enough to go with hearty foods, but it’s not a full-force bruiser. Look for boysenberry and blackberry flavors, hints of cocoa, and a smooth finish.
