I found both Montirius reds to be outstanding. The 2005 Vacqueyras Garrigues comes from the Plateau des Garrigues behind the village and is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Completely destemmed and aged all in tank (this estate never uses any oak whatsoever), it gives up beautiful notes of garrigue, blackcurrants, licorice and toasted spice to go with a rounded, supple, medium to full-bodied profile on the palate. It’s drinking at point and is a classic Vacqueyras to enjoy over the coming couple of years.
