The 2010 Vacqueyras Les Garrigues (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah from the well-known Garrigue lieu-dit situated just outside the village of Vacqueyras) comes from a biodynamically farmed vineyard of 65-year-old vines. Aged completely in concrete, it exhibits lots of naked black cherry fruit intermixed with loamy, peppery, earthy, garrigue notes and hints of licorice as well as spice box. Fleshy and heady with light tannins in the finish, it should drink well for 3-4 years.
Christine and Eric Saurel have fashioned two excellent Gigondas from their 40 acres of vines (all situated at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail) that were planted in 1925, and are now farmed biodynamically.
