An excellent estate, Villa Cafaggio fashioned four impressive wines in 1990. The 1990 San Martino is made from two-thirds Sangiovese and one-third Sangiovese Grosso. Like its sibling, the Cortaccio, it is aged in small French oak casks. It has more typicity in a Tuscan sense than the Cortaccio, which possesses that international Cabernet Sauvignon/new oak cask personality. Does the San Martino exhibit more character? Perhaps. The wine displays a healthy dark ruby color, an earthy, black-cherry and vanillin-scented nose, full body, more structure than Villa Cafaggio's other wines, moderate tannin, and excellent depth and richness. With another year of cellaring, more richness and complexity will emerge. It is a candidate for 10-15 years of drinkability. These four offerings are impressive! Importer: F.W.I.
