1985 remains my favorite vintage for Chianti as well as for many of the super-Tuscans. This wine continues to age beautifully. It reveals a slight trace of volatile acidity (which adds complexity), a huge, sweet, berry, cedary, earthy, peppery nose, outstanding concentration and richness, a chewy texture, plenty of ripe tannin, and a long, spicy, dense, powerful finish. Although it is fully mature, there are no signs of fruit loss or color deterioration, and this wine should drink well for another decade.
