Typical of the 1988 vintage, Badia a Coltibuono's Chianti Classico Riserva displays a spicy, moderately intense nose of cedar, tobacco, dried flowers, and red fruits. In contrast to the 1990, which possesses sweet, ripe tannin, the 1988 displays coarser, more rough-textured tannin, giving the wine a more compressed and structured feel. There is plenty of depth and ripeness, so this should be one 1988 that turns out to be well-balanced when it reaches full maturity in another 3-4 years. It should keep for 12-15+ years.
