The 2014 Morellino di Scansano Riserva shows the results of the talented winemaking team behind this effort, but it also reveals some of the subdued or understated qualities of the vintage. The fruit element is stacked tall, with bright berry and ripe cherry followed by spice, tobacco and grilled herb. There is freshness and good structure over a short, mid-weight palate. The blend is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lovely ripe cherry and strawberry notes lead off, while undertones of earth, leather and tobacco add depth. Leans toward the dry side, yet stays balanced overall and long on the finish.
