The full-bodied, Provencal herb-smelling and tasting 2003 Gigondas Domaine Grande Romane is composed of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and 15% Syrah. It offers peppery notes of underbrush, sweet cherries, licorice, and a touch of toasty oak (it spent 18 months in equal parts new and one-year old oak as well as old foudres), heady alcohol, beefy richness, and a long finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
