Moving to Amadieu’s Gigondas releases, the 2011 Gigondas Domaine Grand Romane is a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and 15% Syrah that was aged 18 months in a combination of older oak casks, 2-year-old barrels and 30% new barrels. Beautifully done, with loads of spice-box, cedar plank, orange rind, toast and sweet blackcurrant-styled aromas and flavors, it is medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and has sweet tannin emerging on the finish. It’s a knockout Gigondas that will have upward of a decade of longevity. Drink now-2021.
