The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a sweet, floral offering redolent of red cherries, spices and herbs. The wine reveals an attractive, layered personality but elements of greenness detract from its overall balance. These high-altitude vineyards appear to have been at a disadvantage in 2004. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. Le Macioche is located in one of the higher-altitude parts of Montalcino. As a result, the property seems to do best in warmer years when the heat adds a measure of plumpness to these linear, classically-built wines.
