One of the standout wines of the vintage, the stunning 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous, seductive wine that gently entices the senses with its floral aromas of crushed rose petal and dried violets, followed by smoky, drying sensation of crushed graphite and talc powder. It’s that floral-versus-mineral bouquet that makes this such an exceptional expression of Sangiovese. Proprietors Achille Mazzocchi and Matilde Zecca have created a tonic, fresh and focused wine with an enormous capacity to caress and finesse the palate. The wine ages for an incredibly long 42 months in large oak casks and it’s the epitome of delicate, territory-driven Brunello. Drink: 2016-2024.
