The forward, plump 2000 Gigondas (14.9% natural alcohol) is chewy, dense, and pure with gorgeous quantities of peppery blackberry and cherry fruit, moderate tannin, an underlying minerality, and a long, concentrated finish. More accessible and precocious than the 2001, it will be at its finest between 2005-2015. As I indicated in 2001, Yves Gras, one of the most talented producers of Gigondas, is also offering wines under a negociant label called Santa Duc Selections. These offerings are made from purchased fruit, as opposed to the estate-bottled efforts that appear under the name Domaine Santa Duc.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel.
