The 2003 Barolo Giachini is not especially complex, but it does offer plenty of dark cherries, spices, menthol and chocolate on a full-bodied frame. Made in an ample, generous style, it is sure to offer rewarding drinking once it settles down further in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015.
Even though La Morra was the most penalized commune in 2003, this is a strong set of releases from brothers Enzo and Carlo Revello, whose small estate is located in the Annunziata sub-zone. Revello is among the growers who have started to move away from an exclusive use of small French oak barrels, and has added medium-size casks in recent years.
