The 1996 Barolo Vigna Giachini reveals a deep ruby color as well as a muscular, powerfully-scented nose of cherry fruit, cedar, fruitcake, dried herbs, and licorice. In the mouth, tobacco flavors make an appearance. This wine is layered, full-bodied, opulent, and dense, with most of the tannin concealed by high extraction and concentration. It is a wine of strength and symmetry with a superb inner-core of fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2020.
