Tasted at the vertical retrospective at the property. The 2008 Chateau Dauzac, a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot, has a backward, slightly surly nose compared to the more outgoing 2007. However, it opens up with aeration and achieves impressive delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannin. I like the symmetry here, the acidity well judged, the tannins showing a little coarseness towards the finish and yet there is commendable length. The 2008 marks a step up in terms of quality from previous vintages and is definitely worth looking out for. Tasted June 2015.
