Medium dark ruby with some amber at the edge, this spicy, earthy, sweet, jammy-scented wine is still drinking well, although it has been fully mature for 10-12 years. The wine exhibits medium to full body, exuberant, rich, berry fruitiness, and attractive floral notes. Pepper, spice, and drying tannin are noticeable in the finish. The 1978 Brune et Blonde may be just beginning to dry out. Mature now. Last tasted 6/96.

Brick-rust in color, with lovely aromas of fresh mushroom, cedar and tea. Very mature, but still balanced and refined, with dried cherry and currant fruit, date, incense and mineral notes. The long, elegant finish lets a hint of musk linger.--Guigal non-blind vertical. Drink now. -JM
