The 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape checks in as a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre that’s aged in a combination of foudre and tronconique tanks. It has classic and old-school notes of ground pepper, saddle leather, garrigue and bouquet garni to go with a medium-bodied, tight, firm and tannic feel on the palate. I like the ripeness here though, and it has solid concentration and mid-palate density. Give it 3-4 years in the cellar and enjoy it through 2027.
