The deep ruby-colored 2001 Gigondas offers up a big, Provencal bouquet of ground pepper, dried herbs, strawberry, and sweet black cherry and berry fruit. Expressive on the front end, with medium to full body, but tight and clipped on the back end, it needs another 1-2 years of cellaring. It should evolve for up to a decade.
