The 2006 Gigondas Cuvee Traditionnelle, a blend of 57% Grenache, 39% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre, aged in small casks (of which some are new) as well as tank, and then blended together, is one of the stronger wines of the vintage. It is very concentrated for this charming year. With a deep ruby/purple-tinged color and sweet blueberry and raspberry fruit notes intermixed with some wet rock, garrigue, and a hint of graphite, the wine is soft, round, as well as long and seductive. It should drink beautifully for up to a decade.
