The deep and brilliant ruby Rosso di Montalcino 2001, presents fragrant raspberry and red currant fruit and some discreet oak spices; round, velvety, and chocolatey in flavor, it is long and firm for this type of wine. Drink: 2004-2007. High level winemaking here.
This small Montalcino property is part of a large Italian insurance company, with the largest part of the wine operation being the Fattoria del Cerro in Montepulciano. The vineyards, well located near Castelnuovo dell’Abate, produced good wines for a decade, but in 1997, largely due to the exceptional work of winemaker Lorenzo Landi, quality took a startling leap.
