The 2008 Rosso di Montalcino is a perfect example of just how tough this vintage is for the Rossos. I usually love La Poderina’s Rosso yet the 2008 it is a soft, fragrant offering with little of the richness and depth readers have become accustomed to here. Ideally this small-scaled, delicate wine is best enjoyed over the next year or two. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2011. This year the highlights at La Poderina are without question the Brunellos. In particular, I was deeply impressed by the 2003 Riserva Poggio Banale, which is a phenomenal effort in this torrid vintage.Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
