The 2002 Rosso di Montalcino is almost as good as the wine produced in the incomparably superior 2001 vintage, a tribute to the hard work and talents of oenologist Lorenzo Landi and staff. Solid, spicy, and substantial, the flavors have the depth and the sweet and tarry personality of an entirely different type of year.
Wines produced by estates belonging to financial institutions rarely have a good reputation in Italy. The outstanding exception are those of mega-insurer SAI, and La Poderina is their Montalcino property.
