The plump, juicy 2003 Rosso di Montalcino offers much pleasure in its jammy dark fruit, licorice and mineral flavors. Full-bodied, ample and soft- textured, it is an irresistible Rosso to drink over the next few years. A great effort. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2008.
I was very impressed with the richly colored, stylish wines I tasted from this winery located in the Castelnuovo dell’Abate subzone in the southeastern corner of Montalcino. Despite being owned by a corporate parent, quality at this estate is quite high. In particular the Rosso, from the hot 2003 vintage, was one of the most compelling wines I tasted while preparing this article.
